Disneyland Survival Part 3 - Specific Tips and Favorites

I think it's really helpful to have some general tips about what it takes to have a good time at Disneyland (see part 1 and part 2). And then there are times when I want specifics. This is basically a self-indulgent memory list of what works and what doesn't for us.

-----  Disneyland  -----

Random Tips:

The line for Dole Whips is shorter inside the entrance to the Tiki Room. The Pirates of the Caribbean Ride has two lines, the one on the left winds around the side of the building making it longer.

If you want to ride Peter Pan, get in line first thing the park opens on a non magic morning. It'll take a while, but it's a beautiful albeit short ride. Expect to wait 30 minutes at least.

Favorite Restaurant:

French Market. I love the Red Beans and Rice with Jalapeno Cheddar Cornbread. Monte Cristo Sandwich in Cafe Orleans for a happy, expensive stomach ache.

Favorite Snack:

Beignets at the Mint Julep Bar. Macarons Jolly Holiday Bakery

Afternoon Break:

New Orleans section benches. Bonus if you're there when the jazz band is playing. Tiki Room with a Dole Whip of course.

Share an Ice Cream Sundae and a casual show from the Laughing Stock Co at the Golden Horseshoe.

Funny Princess themed show at the Royal Theater.

Surefire Quick Ride:

Mad Hatter Tea Party, Winnie the Pooh.

Favorite Shops:

New Orleans Section, Mad Hatter Shop.

Favorite at Night:

Main Street, Fantasyland King Arthur Carousel, Tea Cups.

Avoid:

Redd Rockett's Pizza Port, it has a very strange, dreary and oppressive atmosphere and the pizza is lunch lady worthy.

Toontown during the hottest part of the day, I'm convinced the sun shines twice as hot there.

Can you see me? My body language says it all.
Tomorrowland in the afternoon, it's a hot crowded bottleneck with no shade or trees.

-----  California Adventure  -----

Random Tips:

You can watch the World of Color show from behind, under the Silly Swings on benches with room for kids to run around. It only took waiting for the World of Color once, crowded in with tons of people and our ornery kids to realize it wasn't worth it for us. Watching it behind was totally fun and worth it without the stress and crowd.

Favorite Snack:

Waiting for ice cream. haha.

Ice Cream Sundae at Clarabelle's.

Afternoon Break:

Animation Art Studio, Sorcerer's Workshop. Disney Jr. Live Show. Aladdin Show.

Surefire Quick Ride:

Monster's Inc., Little Mermaid

Favorite at Night:

Bug's Land, Cars Land

Favorite Restaurants:

Sourdough Breadbowls at the Pacific Wharf Cafe. Greek kebabs at Paradise Garden Grill.

Favorite Shops:

Kids waiting fir the parade - While I check out my favorite shop right behind them.
Off the Page Illustrator Shop

Avoid:

Cars Land isn't fun in the crowded middle of the day, it loses the magic and just looks too convincingly like a gas station town.

That's it for this post! Disneyland has ups and downs just like any other place or experience that's part of this world. Just go with the flow and you'll be fine. :) I'm planning one more post about navigating Disneyland in a wheelchair and then it'll be time to put this series to bed and dream of other places and vacations.
