I love having picture books that are special to the season/holiday. This is my very favorite for Thanksgiving: Over the River and Through the Wood by Lydia Maria Child, Illustrated by Christopher Manson. Not only are the pictures beautiful, but I love that you can sing the words with the kids.
I am in love with the woodcut illustrations. It feels so warm and festive. I want to hang them up in my house... or tape them to the outside of my windows, so when I squint I feel like I'm in a winter wonderland.
An added plus is it makes me grateful that we don't have to travel to grandma's house in an open top carriage, although I'm sure it would be fun for the first few minutes. But with these great pictures, we can enjoy the wintry world in the comfort of our own home. Hooray for beautiful picture books!
