our weekend

Try again pictures of Jonas.

I told you he could smile...

(But even though he can smile, the screaming to smiling picture ratio is still about 10 to 1.)

Putting up the Christmas tree twice (It fell over in the night... bad planning on my part)

Trying to keep Jonas from chewing his own (and other people's) hands off.

Working on a Christmas present (it's a surprise!)

And playing my new favorite game: TETRIS FACE-OFF!

It's two player teris that's kinda like musical chairs - The player that's ahead when the song finishes gets to choose the next song. We kinda used that as a way to torture each other, as you can see by the playlist. I won 11 times and Russell won 6. (Bah hah!) Can you guess who chose what song? If you get it right.... I'll mail you a dollar. I know, big incentive huh. My brothers and sisters would go for it. Right guys?

prepare yourself

Being a kid on Thanksgiving at the Tyler house always brought the debate "What can I do to make sure I can eat the most possible?". We could never decide if we should eat breakfast or if we should fast. So, eating as much as possible isn't really the goal for me anymore... but just for curiosity's sake, this website has the answer.

three months old

Yesterday was an adventure... like the kind of adventure where your car breaks down and you're stuck in the middle of the desert without any water. Crappy like that. :)

We made an appointment to go take Jonas's pictures and the lady who was supposed to take them was a half hour late. Jonas is pretty touchy, he was super happy when we got there, but by the time we were going to take pictures he was exhausted and fussy. bah! so frustrating. The kid would not smile.

But he did look pretty scared sometimes (maybe he knew he was getting shots later that day)...

And of course he did his mad face beautifully for the camera. :) You know, I really am so familiar with this face that it's almost more familiar than his smiling one... so it's good to get a picture of it right?
When we were looking at them online it made this one automatically. haha, what the... kind of ironic wouldn't you say? While we were waiting we looked at the books of poses that they had and they were all hilarious. We wanted to borrow the book, scan them in, and send them all to this website. Seriously, there were some to even rival this one.

i could do that: framed objects

I love this idea. I have a couple boxes of frames that I've picked up at DI & yard sales. This would be a great way to use them.

stuck in my head

This is probably one of those songs that you either love or you hate. And it's probably kinda old now and not cool anymore. I'm pretty much completely out of touch (I realized today that I hadn't gone outside for two days... I hadn't even seen the sky... yeah, out of touch) so when we heard this on the radio tonight I loved it. I'd heard it before but forgotten about it. It might be one of those novelty songs that get less cool the more you listen to it. But really, sometimes you just need a song like this where there's some british guy freaking out so you don't have to.
(wait... is he british? he probably isn't... for some reason that makes it seem less cool.)

baby cam

video

Okay, so I realize that no one is as excited to see videos of my baby as I am - but I've kind of had a rough day and this helps to remind me that it's all worth it. I could go on and into detail - but I'm typing one-handed and rocking Jonas to sleep - so I won't. I'm sure it's for the best though - no one likes a cry-baby (referring to me, not Jonas).

And this is random... but the phrase "baby cam" reminds me of Panda Cam. In college my friend Karlan loved to watch the Panda Cam which was a time-lapse picture feed of a baby panda in the San Diego zoo. Russell and I made our own version and I just found it again. I don't think she appreciated it much, and admittedly it's pretty stupid, but we thought we were pretty funny. Good memories :)

Bon Iver

This music is so beautiful that it makes me want to cry... and sleep... okay so maybe that's not because of the music but because Jonas won't sleep. But, regardless, this guy is amazing.

Russell also posted a playlist here.

patting myself on the back

I fixed our washer. It was broken and I fixed it. HECK YEAH! I'm seriously so excited about it. It would overflow every time you started a load, and you had to sit there and watch it fill, them manually stop it and turn it to the drain cycle. And then, when it would fill to rinse you had to manually stop it again. It was really scary because if you forgot about the rinse cycle it would overflow. (AH! thank goodness Russell's Dad had the presence of mind to put a drain in the laundry room.) It's been like this for a couple months and the laundry's been piling up because it's really hard to keep track of with Jonas. So, today I looked the problem up online and took it apart and fixed it. :)

Also, Jonas is asleep in his crib - and he has been for about half an hour now. If he lasts another half hour this will be groundbreaking. He'll sleep in his crib at night, but not for naps. It's the most frustrating thing in the world. He'll be totally asleep, I'll sneak him into his crib and he'll sleep for about ten minutes, then he'll start screaming and it'll take me about half an hour to get him back to sleep again. (Yeah, I've tried the cry-it-out thing but the screams just increase in strength and volume. I think he's too young... we'll see how it goes in a month or so.)

Here's my chance to get something done! I'm inspired by Andrea's energy and it's time to get moving over here. Laundry here we come! (photo)

(oh dang, I think I just heard Jonas sneeze... he's probably sitting in his crib just looking around not wanting to break the news to me that he's awake. cross your fingers!)

diy reader's wreath

I love this. Tutorial here.

stuffed felt letters

Man, I've gotta find myself some felt! I love that it won't fray and doesn't need to be hemmed or anything. These letters are a great example of what you can do with it. Throw some magnets on the back and you've got a great toy.

me & Jonas

Thanks again to Heather for taking these pictures! I'm so lucky to know such talented people.

These are over a month old and they were taken when smiling was a pretty cool trick.

Yeah right Jonas... I know you love it.

Jonas has got the Blue Steel look down. Notice the chubby baby rolls on his back... I had no idea he was so chubby.

ten weeks

video

He's been pretty fussy lately - but times like this when he's happy make it all worth it (almost... just kidding). He's almost rolling onto his belly too! Fun stuff.

video

Heather also let us use her Bumbo chair. It's so funny to see him sitting up and it's great because he loves looking around. Thanks Heather and Tiffanie!

stuck in my head

This isn't really the kind of music I normally listen to - but they play these songs on the local high school station (no commercials, woo-hoo). I was telling Lauren about these and my singing them doesn't really accurately represent them. So here you go Lauren, these are for you.

This is pretty funny and pretty ridiculous.

I love having little brothers.

baby hat tutorial

Here's another one I want to try. But wait... I don't have any material... or a sewing machine for that matter. Meh... details.

blessing outfit - before & after

I was pretty shocked at how expensive (and generally ugly) baby boy blessing outfits were. most were between $50 - $100 for something they're only going to wear once. And then they were either little tuxes, sailor outfits (not sure why there are so many sailor outfits...) or they looked like they're for a mom who actually wanted a girl and was going to dress him like one. Even used ones cost around $40. So my mom and i decided that maybe we could make one or adapt something. We were walking around kid-to-kid and I found this... in the girl section... for $4.99:

Yeah... those are little roses and bows, and puffy sleeves. But with some applique work and a lot of hand stitching we were able to make this:

We removed the silk collar and puffy sleeves. I unpicked all the flowers and bows. My mom turned-under and ironed the white and blue argyle diamonds (thanks mom! I hate ironing) and I sewed them on by hand and did the argyle stitching. He wore a little white cotton polo underneath. It was actually a lot of fun and really satisfying being able to fix it and stitch it by hand. It made me feel all motherly and domestic. And it turned out really soft and cuddly and cute.

Just don't tell Jonas that it was originally for a girl...

stuffed robots

How awesome are these little stuffed robots? I wonder if I could pull off making one for Jonas. I know I probably could, the real question is how long would it take me and do I have the patience for it. Hmm... we'll see.

from here

4 more generations

So these pictures are almost a month old because our camera was hiding for awhile - But they're too good not to share. This was Jonas' first trip to the park! We had a picnic with Grandma Tyler and Great Grandma and Grandpa Haskell.

Jonas loves playing with his grandma - and I love it too! It's so nice to have a break!

Check out Jonas' funny balding baby head. It started at the top and within a few days he was completely bald. It's growing back now though. Thank goodness.

happy halloween

Russell & I thought it would be funny to dress Jonas up as Yoda (funny or cruel? he was making a face all night that made it seem like he didn't think it was funny.) so I came up with this little costume. I was going to make costumes for me and russell too - but it would have been twice as hard and not half as cute.
So we ended up dressing up as nerdy parents who would dress their kid up as Yoda for Halloween. We're not really nerds, it was just for Halloween people. *cough*

Jonas didn't really go for the posed pictures. Gets that from his dad. Actually he's saying "I've told you a million times - I wanted to be Han Solo!!!" Maybe next year...

All of my brothers and sisters - we had fun!
